Santa Claus – Supercentenarian

If you’re lucky enough to get a visit from Santa Claus this year, you might find yourself wondering, “How does this jolly old man keep it up, year after year?” Well, let’s look beyond the myth to the reality of Santa’s legendary age (he’s a supercentenarian and then some), his origins, and the magic that powers his enduring spirit.

In the Beginning

Santa’s story begins over 1,700 years ago with Saint Nicholas, a bishop born in the 3rd century in what’s now Turkey. Originally called Saint Nicholas, he became known for his generosity.  Stories of his secret gift-giving soon became known around the globe. They and he became an integral part of Christmas itself. Over centuries, Saint Nicholas transformed into the Santa we know and love today.

Santa’s Age

If we’re counting from the time of Saint Nicholas, Santa would be over 1,700 years old! But the Santa we know—a red-suited, jolly old man with a knack for worldwide sleigh rides—is a more recent invention. Writers and artists like Clement Clarke Moore and Thomas Nast began in the 1800s to shape Santa into the jolly character we know today. They expanded the myth and shared his secrets of having a workshop at the North Pole and a team of magical reindeer.

No Small Feat!

Every year without fail, Santa delivers gifts to children around the world. It’s no small feat! Luckily, Santa has his merry team of elves who make toys year-round for all the good boys and girls. And let’s not forget about the reindeer who whisk him around the globe, each with their own unique magic.

However, Santa’s magic isn’t just in his sleigh and reindeer—it’s in his unbreakable spirit, his love for spreading joy, and his commitment to making Christmas magical. He’s kept going for centuries because he’s powered by joy, generosity, and a timeless love for children everywhere.

So, this Christmas, when you hang up your stocking, remember: Santa’s no ordinary man. He’s a supercentenarian with an amazing track record and the ultimate dedication to making sure children (and adults) everywhere have a wonderful Christmas. He’s living proof that with enough love and magic, anything is possible!
